Guides
Every business is different. Start with your activity and we'll show you the zones that fit.
The UAE has more than 40 free zones spread across seven emirates. Each one is a special economic area with its own authority, rules and price list. Setting up a company in a free zone lets you own 100% of your business as a foreigner, send profits home, and sponsor UAE residence visas for yourself, your team and your family.
The challenge is choice. A licence can cost from around AED 5,047 in Ajman or Umm Al Quwain to well over AED 40,000 in a financial centre like DIFC. Some zones allow e-commerce, others specialise in media, commodities, logistics or crypto. Visa quotas, office rules and setup times differ too. Freezone King puts all of this in one place so you can compare honestly and choose with confidence.
Most budget free zones start between AED 5,000 and AED 7,000 for a licence with no visa. Dubai options such as IFZA and Meydan typically start around AED 12,500–13,000. Premium zones like DMCC, ADGM and DIFC cost more, but bring stronger brand recognition and easier banking. Remember to budget for the establishment card, each residence visa, the medical test and Emirates ID — our cost calculator includes all of these.
Start with what you sell and who your customers are. E-commerce sellers often choose SPC, IFZA or Dubai CommerCity. Consultants and agencies like IFZA, Meydan and SHAMS. Traders who move physical goods look at JAFZA, Ajman or RAKEZ for warehouse access. Crypto and Web3 founders compare DMCC, RAK DAO and ADGM. Our “best free zone for” guides walk you through each case.
Free zones are usually the fastest and cheapest route for international, online and service businesses. If you need to sell directly to UAE consumers from a shop, or bid for government contracts, a mainland company may be better. Offshore companies are used mainly for holding assets. The table below shows the key differences.
With complete documents, many free zones issue the licence in two to seven working days. Residence visas typically take another one to three weeks, depending on medical test and biometrics appointments. You can pay online on Freezone King and upload your passport straight away, which removes days of back-and-forth.
