With more than 40 free zones, choosing can feel overwhelming. This five-step checklist gets most founders to a confident decision quickly.
1. Start with your activity
Search your exact activity. Only consider zones that license it — and note if it needs external approval.
2. Decide your visa needs
How many people will live in the UAE in the next year — you, partners, staff? This determines your package and office type.
3. Set a realistic budget
Look at the first-year total, not just the licence. Include establishment card, visas, medical, Emirates ID and any add-ons. Our calculator does this for you.
4. Think about banking and clients
Will your bank or clients care where you are licensed? A Dubai address or premium zone can help with credibility; a budget zone keeps costs low.
5. Consider location and growth
Need a warehouse, a port or a physical office? Industrial and logistics businesses should look at JAFZA, KEZAD, RAKEZ or SAIF. Service businesses can usually start on a flexi-desk anywhere.
Then compare
Shortlist three zones and compare them side by side. Still stuck? An advisor can recommend one in a ten-minute WhatsApp chat.
